The government of Uttarakhand has issued an order for the issuance of a death certificate for those who are missing fifteen days after the flash floods in Chamoli district. Authorities say the 134 people still missing in all likelihood died in the disaster, but their bodies that have not been found will be presumed dead.
The decision to declare those missing as presumed dead will speed up the process of distributing compensation among affected families, officials said.
DGP Ashok Kumar said that even after the issuance of the death certificates, the search for missing persons would continue.
