A 16-year-old girl who had survived an alleged assassination attempt in a village in Unnao and who was found in a farm field with two other people recorded her statement before a magistrate on Tuesday, police said.
On Wednesday evening, three girls – aged 16, 15 and 14 – were found unconscious in a farm field in Babuhara village from the Asoha police station. They had left the house to collect fodder for the cattle but did not return.
Finding them there, locals took them to a hospital where two of them were pronounced dead. The 16-year-old girl was then taken to a hospital in Kanpur where she is undergoing treatment.
Police arrested two people in this case, charging them with murder over a “one-sided” love affair.
SP Anand Kulkarni said the girl’s statement was recorded on Tuesday morning.
He said the girl in her statement said Vinay and her friend came to the field on the day of the incident. At that time, she and the other two girls were collecting fodder for the cattle.
“Vinay offered snacks, which the girls refused. With that, Vinay gave them water. After drinking it, they fell unconscious, ”the girl said.
Mr Kulkarni said the young girl in her statement said the accused did not engage in sexual assault. Police say the accused gave the three girls pesticide mixed with water.
