The head of the youth wing of the DMK, Udhayanidhi Stalin, was arrested in Nagapattinam for the second day in a row on Saturday for violating the physical distancing rules in place for COVID-19.
On Friday, he embarked on the DMK pre-election road show “Vidiyalai Nokki Stalinin Kural” in Thirukuvalai when he was arrested.
Mr. Udhayanidhi, who stayed here overnight after being released by police in Thirukuvalai, visited Akkarapettai fishing port on Saturday morning and ventured out into the sea on a mechanized fishing boat. He interacted with the fishermen and asked them if they were receiving government assistance properly. Upon his return to the port, the police arrested Mr. Udhayanidhi and took him to a wedding hall.
Speaking strongly against his arrest, he told reporters he had received a huge response from people wherever he went. “AIADMK could not support the growing popularity of DMK. Therefore, the ruling waiver abused police mechanisms to disrupt DMK’s public awareness programs, ”he said.
“Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, under the guise of the COVID-19 review meetings, is engaging in the campaign. But we are prevented and the men of DMK are reserved ”, he declared and added that the party would continue its program of sensitization of the public“ in spite of the abusive use of the official mechanisms by the AIADMK ”.
