Tiger Woods suffers leg injuries after California car crash

Mr. Woods must have been exited from the vehicle with the “jaw-of-life” tools, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

Golf star Tiger Woods sustained a leg injury on Tuesday in a vehicle rollover in the Los Angeles area and is undergoing surgery, authorities and his manager said. His condition is not yet clear.

Mr. Woods must have been exited from the vehicle with the “jaw-of-life” tools, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. No other car was involved in the wreckage that injured the golfer.

Mr. Woods was transported to hospital by ambulance. The vehicle sustained significant damage, the sheriff’s department said.

“Tiger Woods was in a single car accident this morning in California, sustaining multiple leg injuries,” said manager Mark Steinberg. He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support. “

A KABC-TV helicopter flying over the scene of Mr. Woods’ crash showed a sideways car with badly damaged front end. The airbags appeared to be deployed. The wreckage appeared to be right next to a hillside road.

Mr. Woods, whose first name is Eldrick, was the sole occupant of the vehicle, the sheriff’s department said.

The crash happened shortly before 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, officials said.

Mr. Woods was in Los Angeles this weekend hosting the Genesis Invitational tournament in Riviera, where he presented the trophy. He was to spend Monday and Tuesday filming with GOLFTV, owned by Discovery, with whom he has a rider contract. A tweet on Monday showed him in a smiling cart with David Spade.

According to Golf Digest, also owned by Discovery, the TV set was lessons on the course for celebrities, such as Spade and Dwyane Wade. He didn’t play.

The 15-time major champion last played on December 20 in the PNC Championship with his 11-year-old son, Charlie. He had a fifth back operation, a microdiscectomy, two days before Christmas and gave no indication of his return. The Masters will be held April 8-11 and when asked if he would be there during the CBS TV broadcast, Mr. Woods replied, “God, I hope so.

This is the third time Mr. Woods has participated in a car investigation. Most notorious was the early morning after Thanksgiving in 2009, when his SUV hit a fire hydrant and hit a tree. It was the start of shocking revelations that he had cheated on his wife with several women. Mr. Woods lost a major corporate sponsorship, went to a rehabilitation clinic in Mississippi and did not return to golf for five months.

In May 2017, Florida police found him asleep while driving a car parked awkwardly on the side of the road. He was arrested on a DUI charge and later said he had an unexpected reaction to his back pain medication. Mr Woods later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and attended a clinic for help with prescription drugs and a sleep disorder.
