Sanjay Gupta’s Mumbai Saga teaser has been released and it sets the tone for this vintage crime thriller. The teaser opens with the text “When Bombay Was Not Yet Mumbai” and “When Violence Reigned In The Streets” suggesting that the film is set during a time when the underworld had a huge presence in the city.
John Abraham plays Amartya Rao who “got off the streets” and now wants to “rule” the city. He is opposed by the character of cop of Emraan Hashmi who came out of the “ghettos” of the city.

Mumbai Saga also stars Mahesh Manjrekar, Suniel Shetty and Gulshan Grover among others. The film is written, produced and directed by Sanjay Gupta. Gupta has already made films like Shootout at Lokhandwala, Jazbaa, Kaabil, Musafir, Zinda among others. Like many of its previous directors, this film also seems to be biased towards a green filter which makes it look different.
Hashmi previously said in a statement: “Dating specialist, he can put a bullet in someone if it accomplishes his motive. He’s a badass character in a dog-eat-dog-like world where this guy is the wolf. No one would imagine that I was playing a cop, but to this cop, he is, like I said, like a gangster. Whether by fair or unfair means, he will bring down the guy he’s looking for. So, it’s kind of home, but it’s a very entertaining speech for a character in pure Sanjay Gupta style, who has created his own brand of cinema. And as an actor, I’m always up for something different.
Mumbai Saga hits theaters on March 19.
