Actor Mandana Karimi has claimed that on the last day of filming for his next film, Koka Kola, the film’s producer Mahendra Dhariwal, behaved badly with her. The producer, in turn, accused her of showing unprofessional behavior.
Mandana often spoke of being alone in Mumbai, as she did not have a sponsor in the industry. She is known for her work in films such as Kya Kool Hain Hum and Bhaag Johnny.
According to a Times of India report, the confrontation took place a day before Diwali, when the filming of Koka Kola was nearing completion. Mandana reportedly said: “I’m still in shock about what happened and how it happened. Koka Kola is a movie we’ve been working on for over a year now, and it’s one of those jobs that you do knowing the crew isn’t very professional. We all end up doing a few of these jobs to keep us afloat. From the start I had problems with this crew. The producer (Mahendra Dhariwal) is an old school man who turns the setting into a selfish man-dominated place. There are places where projects are driven by a person’s ego. This is nothing new, but what happened on November 13 shocked me.
In the story, she then described how, on the last day of filming, she wanted to wrap up her part and leave because she had another meeting scheduled. That day she arrived early and clocked the necessary hours. At the time of the recap, the producer asked her to stay an extra hour, but she declined because she had a meeting. He was okay with that and she went back and finished a few final takes. They were playing a song. “But the moment I left the set and went to my vanity to change, he forced his way inside and started yelling ‘You can’t go. I asked you to do an extra hour and you have to listen because I am the producer and I paid you ”.
Producer Mahendra shared his own side of the story. He was quoted in the same copy saying: “We were filming for Koka Kola with Sunny Leone and Mandana Karimi before the pandemic hits us. Filming was interrupted due to the lockdown. We had signed Mandana for Rs 7 lakhs, but once the filming started and went into continuity, she started acting. Like when we were filming in Delhi and she had to stay back for a day, she demanded Rs 2 lakh be paid to her. After the lockdown, when we started planning our shoot again and reached out to her for dates, she said she was busy. She demanded a sum of Rs 2 lakh per day for these new dates. She wanted the money to be paid in advance, which I did.
He then explained how the day went. He said the filming schedule was from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The production team had created a backdrop to shoot a song. At 7 p.m. she said she had to leave. He then asked her to wait an extra hour as the song was due to end that day. At 8 p.m., she got up to leave with a few more shots left to can. He said he ran after her to stop her. He told her he would have to suffer a loss if he was to shoot again the next day. But she didn’t want to stay behind, and it was only then that he lost his temper as she started to pack. Mandana then started making videos of him screaming but told her he was not afraid. He entered the vanity for about 10 to 15 seconds after entering, and did so after knocking. He claimed that it was she who asked him to enter. He added that there were a lot of people on set and how they would vouch for what he said. Koka Kola also stars Sunny Leone.
