Hitting states led by the Bharatiya Janata party, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and top Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday asked whether interfaith marriages of family members of BJP leaders would fall under the definition of “ jihad in love. ”.
“The family members of several BJP leaders have also performed interfaith marriages. I ask the leaders of the BJP if these marriages fall under the definition of “jihad in love”? Mr. Baghel asked, addressing the media.
The statement comes after Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently announced that his government would pass strict law to curb “love jihad” and forced religious conversion. Previously, the BJP government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Madhya Pradesh said the state would soon have a law against “love jihad”.
