The Indian Premier League (IPL) is undoubtedly one of the most popular sporting events in the world, and it wouldn’t be wrong if the IPL is the toughest cricket league in the world.
Getting a chance to play in the cash rich tournament is not easy and players who are lucky enough to play their trades in the IPL need to perform consistently in order to keep their place on the team.
With IPL 2021 set to begin in April, a mega auction is expected to take place before the start of the new season. The mega auction will be a perfect opportunity for franchises to cut and change their teams, and as always, some big names are unlikely to find takers in the mega auction.
Some reports have claimed that BCCI is also planning to add a ninth franchise to the IPL family, which should make the mega auction very attractive. Franchisees will try to add new players to their squad in order to build a squad for the future and this makes a player’s age and fitness a very vital criterion.
Here are some star players that could be unsold in the mega auction:
Piyush Chawla: The skater is a known face in the IPL but his physical form is no longer up to par. In IPL 2020, Chawla was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad, but he was unable to participate in many CSK matches. Chawla made seven appearances in the 2020 IPL and claimed just six wickets. If CSK decides to free Chawla, he is unlikely to find takers.
Kedar Jadhav: Indian all-rounder Jadhav failed to live up to his name at IPL 2020. Jadhav played for CSK and scored just 62 points in eight matches. It is highly unlikely that Jadhav will be bought by a team in a mega auction, as his physical form is also a major concern.
Umesh Yadav: Fast bowler Umesh Yadav has only played two games in IPL 2020 and he failed even to pick up a single wicket. Yadav could be unsold if he is back at the auction table. Yadav’s economy is also higher in IPL and this may also cause Frnachise owners not to include him in the team.
