The first opinions for Kristen stewart and Mackenzie Davis to star of the upcoming romantic comedy Happiest Season are here. The film, also starring Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Dan Levy, Mary Holland, Victor Garber and Mary Steenburgen.
The film tells the story of a woman who wishes to propose marriage to her girlfriend but learns that she has not come forward to her conservative parents.
Clea DuVall co-wrote and directed Happiest Season. Mary Holland also contributed to the script.
The film currently has a 91% score on review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes after 45 reviews. The critical consensus reads: “A good time with heartfelt performances and more than enough holiday cheer, whatever you want for Christmas is the happiest season.”
K. Austin Collins of Rolling Stone said that while the film isn’t a “knockout”, the actors “often are.” The rest is an exercise so as not to overdo it. It’s here, it’s weird, it’s not much else – and it’s OK.
Owen Gleiberman of Variety wrote: “Deep down, ‘Happiest Season’ is a serious, at times revolutionary mainstream comedy, rooted in the sadness of a world where the closet, for too many people, still lingers in one form or another. .
The Daily Beast’s Kevin Fallon wrote in his review, “The happiest season is the movie it is. And it’s a good version of that movie, which will hopefully make an impact on audiences who love the holiday movie genre and might never have thought of emotionally investing in that kind of story.
David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter, said: “Considering DuVall’s background as an actor, it’s no surprise that she gets such engaging work from her cast, with tasty individual characterizations, but more importantly, a group dynamic that is both vibrant and believable. “
The happiest season is set to release on November 26.
