Govt. ‘curbs’ on priests decried

BJP State Secretary General S. Vishnuvardhan Reddy said on Twitter that the government “harassed the Brahmins” during Tungabhadra Pushkaram by interfering with the rituals practiced by Hindus.

He lamented that unfair restrictions had been placed on priests and that tariffs had been set for ceremonies, and questioned whether the government would treat mollas and pastors with such disdain.

He demanded that the government renounce “its attitude”, thus allowing the poor Brahmins to earn a living during the river festival.
