The former MP and another person were arrested under different sections of the IPC, police said
Phulbani:
Police arrested two people on Tuesday, including ex-Phulbani lawmaker Debendra Kanhar, accused of assault and looting, an officer said.
The other person arrested along with Kahnar has been identified as Srinivas Kahnar, a former Odisha police havildar, the officer said.
“The former deputy and another person were arrested under different sections of the IPC on the basis of the complaint lodged by a resident of Dhenkanal district,” said Mahendranath Murmu, a sub-division police officer of Phulbani (SDPO ).
The incident took place on February 11. Kanhar and his aide attacked a group of tourists who had traveled to Katramal Waterfall near the town of Phulbani, police said, adding that they also looted them.
Debendra Kanhar was elected to the Assembly segment of the Phulbani Assembly in 2009 on a BJD ticket. He was denied a ticket to the BJD in the 2019 election.
