Dr Harsh Vardhan should say he is not endorsing Patanjali’s Coronil: Indian Medical Association

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan is expected to issue a statement that he does not approve the sale of Coronil as a curative drug for Covid-19, said Dr JA Jayalal, national president of Indian Medical Association (IMA).

The statement was in response to the Delhi Medical Association which defended the presence of Dr. Vardhan at the Coronil launch, which yoga guru Ramdev’s Patanjali group says can be used to treat coronavirus.

Emphasizing that the IMA is a professional body, Dr Jayalal said that as National President he expressed the scientific point of view of 3.5 lakh doctors “on this public thing”.

In a previous press release, the IMA had raised questions regarding the nature of clinical trials conducted by the Patanjali Research Institute.

The Delhi Medical Association criticized the IMA for making “baseless” statements about Dr Harsh Vardhan. He had attended the launch of Coronil by the Patanjali Research Institute as a minister and not as a practitioner of modern medicine, he said.
