The state of health of the triple former chief minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, who has been fighting post-Covid health complications for a month, remains “critical” despite certain positive signs such as “spontaneous opening of the eyes” , according to doctors.
The 86-year-old congressman had become “completely unconscious” on Saturday afternoon after having difficulty breathing, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. He also suffered multiple organ failure, the minister confirmed.
Since Saturday, Mr Gogoi has been on mechanical respiratory assistance at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, where a team of doctors are monitoring his condition and efforts are being made to revive his organs with medication and dialysis.
“He is now semi-conscious and hemodynamically stable, but his health remains critical. He maintains his pulse and blood pressure. There were spontaneous movements of the hands and eyes, which is a positive sign. But, there is little urine output. It’s very little improvement in his health parameters, ”hospital director Dr Abhijit Sarma told NDTV.
GMCH doctors are in constant contact with experts from the first Indian Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi who have ruled out the possibility of moving Mr. Gogoi out of state in this condition.
“All decisions relating to Mr. Gogoio’s health are made in consultation with AIIMS experts. We will be observing his health very closely for the next 24 hours. We expect that he will emerge from this situation very soon. critical, ”said Dr. Sarma.
The son of Tarun Gogoi, Congress leader and MP Gaurav Gogoi, is in the hospital.
Mr Gogoi had tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease on August 25 and was admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital the next day. He had recovered from COVID-19 after two months.
Earlier this month, on November 2, he had to be readmitted to hospital due to post-Covid complications and was on non-invasive ventilation until his condition deteriorated on Saturday.
