On Sunday, a Mumbai court returned comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Harsh Limbachiya, arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau following a drug seizure at their home here, to judicial custody until December 4. .

NCB arrested Singh on Saturday and her husband early Sunday morning following the seizure of ganja (cannabis) in their home in the suburb of Andheri.

The couple were presented to a lower court on Sunday afternoon.

“The court placed the two defendants in judicial detention until December 4,” NCB prosecutor Atul Sarpande said. PTI.

NCB recovered 86.5 g of ganja during the search. This is considered a “ small amount ” under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), an official said.

Acting on a whistleblower, the NCB on Saturday conducted a search of Singh’s office and residence as part of its investigation into suspected drug use in the entertainment industry.

Up to 1000g of ganja is considered a small amount, resulting in a prison sentence of up to six months and / or a fine of Rs 10,000. Possession of a commercial quantity – 20 kg or more – can lead to up to 20 years in prison. For the intermediate amount, the penalty can be up to 10 years in prison.

“Singh’s name came up during the interrogation of a drug dealer,” the official said.

She has appeared in a number of comedy and reality television shows and has hosted a few such shows as well.
