Berlin: Youssoufa Moukoko became the youngest player to appear in a Bundesliga game after making his debut for Borussia Dortmund at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Moukoko turned 16 on Friday and was immediately included in Dortmund’s squad for their league clash against Hertha Berlin.
A rule change in Germany’s top flight earlier this year raised the minimum age requirement from 16 and a half to 16, allowing his inclusion on the bench the day after his birthday.
The young striker appeared in the 85th minute for Erling Haaland, as he replaced the Norwegian, who scored four goals on Saturday, to score a new Bundesliga record.
Dortmund beat Hertha by 5-2 and are now second in the points table with 18 points. Former coach Michael Feichtenbeiner is just one of those to have seen Moukoko who predicts big things for the striker.
“Such talent does not happen in Germany every five years. His footballing skills are just exceptional and he is a player who can make all the difference. He has scored his goals everywhere – and there won’t be Youssoufa will break many Bundesliga records, “said Goal.com, citing the former German U16 coach.
“In an environment like Dortmund with so many young players, it’s a bit easier for him. You can see it in Jude Bellingham, who at 17 from England seems to have little problem keeping up with the level “. he added.
Moukoko has also made an impact at the international level, representing Germany at the U16 and U20 levels.
