ATHENS, Greece: A 6-year-old boy was seriously injured in a fire at a migrant camp northwest of Athens, Greek firefighters said on Tuesday.

Firefighters said firefighters had to be accompanied by police to enter the camp after residents initially barred them from entering. The property is located near the city of Thebes, approximately 90 kilometers (55 miles) from the Greek capital.

A statement from the fire department said eight firefighters with four fire trucks were finally able to put out the blaze in a building in the camp.

He said the boy had already been removed from the fire by camp residents and was no longer breathing, but it was not clear if rescuers were able to revive him. The child’s nationality has not been released.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
